Description:
Epinum Cream is a topical anesthetic cream formulated with Lidocaine and Prilocaine. This eutectic mixture remains in liquid form due to its low melting point, offering efficient pain relief
Composition:
Each gram contains
Lidocaine USP 25 mg (2.5% w/w)
Prilocaine USP 25 mg
(2.5% w/w)
Pharmacodynamics:
- Lidocaine and Prilocaine provide dermal anesthesia by inhibiting pain receptors and nerve endings
- Maximal anesthesia is achieved after 12 hours of application, varying by skin location
- Effective for needle procedures, laser treatment, and curettage of molluscum contagiosum in pediatric patients
- Safe and efficacious for adult and elderly populations
- Application to the genital mucosa achieves rapid anesthesia (1520 minutes)
- Leg ulcers cleansing is achieved after 30 minutes of application
- No need for dose reduction in hepatic or renal impairment
- Infants under 37 weeks gestational age should not use it due to the risk of methemoglobinemia.
Warnings and Precautions:
- Avoid use in patients with hypersensitivity to lidocaine, prilocaine, or related compounds
- Exercise caution in patients with glucose6phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency and atopic dermatitis
- Prolonged application on atopic dermatitis may cause local vascular reactions
- Be cautious when applying near the eyes and rinse immediately if contact occurs
- Monitoring is necessary for patients on class I antiarrhythmics as their cardiac effects may accumulate.
- Lidocaine and prilocaine have bactericidal and antiviral properties at concentrations above
0.52%
