Terbiderm Forte 250mg Tablets (Terbinafine) - Antifungal

Terbiderm Forte 250mg Tablets contain terbinafine hydrochloride, an oral allylamine antifungal that is fungicidal against dermatophytes, moulds and many yeasts. Prescription required. Indicated for onychomycosis (fungal nail infection), tinea capitis, tinea corporis, tinea cruris and tinea pedis where topical therapy is not adequate. Terbinafine accumulates in skin, hair and nails, supporting high cure rates with once-daily dosing. Treatment courses typically run from 2 weeks (skin) up to 3-6 months (nails). Important safety information: terbinafine can cause hepatotoxicity, taste disturbance and rare skin reactions - liver function tests are recommended before and during treatment. Use only under medical supervision.

How To Use

How to Use

1. Use only under medical supervision - this is a prescription antifungal that needs baseline assessment.
2. Typical adult dose is one 250mg tablet once daily, with or without food, at the same time each day.
3. Skin infections (tinea corporis, cruris, pedis) usually need 2-6 weeks of treatment; fingernail infections around 6 weeks and toenail infections 12 weeks or more.
4. Complete the full course even if symptoms improve early - nails grow out slowly so visible improvement lags behind cure.
5. Your doctor will check baseline liver function and may repeat LFTs during prolonged treatment.

Stop treatment and contact your doctor immediately if you develop jaundice, dark urine, unexplained nausea, severe taste loss, skin rash or signs of severe allergy. Avoid in active or chronic liver disease and significant renal impairment unless specifically advised.

FAQs

Do I need a prescription for Terbiderm Forte?

Yes - oral terbinafine is a prescription medicine because of the risk of liver toxicity and the need for monitoring.

How long does treatment last?

Skin infections often clear in 2-6 weeks. Fingernails usually need around 6 weeks and toenails 12 weeks or longer for cure.

What are the main side effects?

Headache, gastrointestinal upset, rash and taste disturbance are most common. Rarely, liver enzyme rises, severe skin reactions or blood disorders can occur.

Will my taste change?

Some users notice a metallic taste or reduced taste sensation. This is usually reversible after stopping treatment but can be persistent - report it to your doctor.

Can I drink alcohol while on Terbiderm Forte?

It is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol, as both can stress the liver. Your doctor may advise complete abstinence during the course.
