Travocort Cream 15g — Isoconazole Nitrate 1% + Diflucortolone Valerate 0.1% | Prescription Only

Prescription required. Travocort Cream 15g by Martin Dow is a dual-action combination cream containing Isoconazole Nitrate 1% (broad-spectrum antifungal) and Diflucortolone Valerate 0.1% (very potent Class II corticosteroid). It treats superficial fungal skin infections complicated by significant inflammation or eczema. Strictly observe treatment duration limits.

IMPORTANT DURATION LIMIT: Maximum 2–4 weeks on the face, groin, or armpits. Maximum 8 weeks on other body areas. Do not use long-term on face, groin, or armpits.

Composition

Each gram contains: Isoconazole Nitrate 10mg (1%) + Diflucortolone Valerate 1mg (0.1%) in cream base.

Mechanism of Action

  • Isoconazole Nitrate: Imidazole antifungal; inhibits ergosterol biosynthesis in fungal cell membranes, delivering fungicidal activity against dermatophytes, Candida, and Gram-positive bacteria.
  • Diflucortolone Valerate: Very potent fluorinated corticosteroid; rapidly reduces inflammation, pruritus, and erythema associated with the eczematous/inflammatory component of fungal infections.

Indications

  • Superficial fungal infections accompanied by inflammation or eczema
  • Dermatophyte infections (tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea versicolor) with inflammatory features
  • Candidiasis of skin with eczema
  • Fungal infections in interdigital spaces, skin folds, and other sensitive areas

How to Use

  1. Cleanse and dry the affected area before application.
  2. Apply a thin layer twice daily to the affected skin.
  3. Rub gently until absorbed.
  4. Duration limits — strictly observe:
    • Face / groin / armpits: Maximum 2 weeks. Not for long-term use in these areas.
    • Other body areas: Maximum 8 weeks.
  5. Do not use under occlusive dressings unless specifically prescribed.

Contraindications

  • Skin tuberculosis, syphilis, viral skin infections (herpes simplex, varicella/chickenpox), rosacea, or perioral dermatitis.
  • Known hypersensitivity to isoconazole, diflucortolone valerate, or any excipient.

Special Precautions

  • Prescription-only — use under dermatologist supervision only.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
  • Latex damage warning: The cream may damage latex products (condoms, diaphragms) — use alternative contraception when applying in genital or groin areas.
  • Prolonged or extensive use or use under occlusion increases systemic absorption and risk of adrenal suppression, skin atrophy, and striae.
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women: consult your doctor before use.

Usage & Benefits
  • Isoconazole Nitrate 1%: Broad-spectrum imidazole antifungal effective against dermatophytes (Trichophyton, Epidermophyton), yeasts (Candida), and certain Gram-positive bacteria; fungicidal action via ergosterol synthesis inhibition
  • Diflucortolone Valerate 0.1%: Very potent (Class II) fluorinated corticosteroid providing rapid and powerful anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive relief for the eczematous and inflammatory component of fungal skin infections
  • Dual action: Simultaneously eliminates fungal infection (antifungal) AND controls inflammation and itch (corticosteroid) in a single cream
  • Particularly effective for fungal infections presenting with significant eczema, redness, and pruritus
  • Twice-daily application; results typically within 2 weeks
  • Important: Due to potency of Diflucortolone Valerate, treatment duration must be strictly limited.

FAQs

Does Travocort Cream require a prescription?

Yes. Travocort Cream contains Diflucortolone Valerate, a very potent (Class II) corticosteroid, and must be used under dermatologist supervision.

What conditions is Travocort Cream used for?

Travocort Cream is prescribed for superficial fungal infections of the skin that are accompanied by significant inflammation, eczema, or pruritus — such as infected tinea pedis, tinea cruris, cutaneous candidiasis, and other dermatophyte infections with inflammatory features.

How long can I use Travocort Cream?

Duration must be strictly limited: - Face: maximum 2–4 weeks. Do not use long-term on the face, around the eyes, groin, or armpits. - Body (other skin areas): maximum 8 weeks. Prolonged use of a very potent corticosteroid such as Diflucortolone Valerate may cause skin atrophy, striae, and systemic effects. Always follow your dermatologist’s instructions.

Can Travocort Cream damage condoms or diaphragms?

Yes. The cream base can damage latex products, reducing their effectiveness as contraceptives. Use alternative contraception methods while using Travocort Cream in the genital or groin area.

Can I use Travocort Cream during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Consult your doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Avoid prolonged or large-area application.

What side effects can occur?

Mild irritation or burning at the application site is possible. With prolonged use, very potent corticosteroids may cause skin thinning (atrophy), striae, or systemic absorption effects. Discontinue and consult your doctor if unusual symptoms occur.
