Description
What is VPN 10mg Tablet?
VPN 10mg Tablets contain Vonoprazan, a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) that provides rapid, potent, and sustained suppression of gastric acid secretion. It is prescribed for acid reflux (GERD), erosive oesophagitis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, and as part of Helicobacter pylori eradication regimens. For the 20mg strength, see VPN 20mg Tablets 14s.
How Does VPN 10mg Work?
Unlike proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), Vonoprazan blocks the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme by competing with potassium ions rather than requiring acid activation. This enables faster onset of action and more consistent acid suppression, even in patients with CYP2C19 poor metaboliser status. The result is sustained control of intragastric pH throughout the day and night.
Uses of VPN 10mg
Indicated for erosive oesophagitis, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Also used in H. pylori triple or dual therapy regimens to promote ulcer healing and prevent recurrence. See also VPN 20mg Tablets for higher-dose indications.
Dosage & Administration
Typical dose: 10mg once daily, with or without food. Take at the same time each day. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew. For H. pylori eradication, the dose and duration are determined by the prescribing physician. Prescription required.
Side Effects
Generally well tolerated. Common: mild nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, headache. Less common: elevated liver enzymes, fundic gland polyps with long-term use (as with all acid suppressants). Rare: hypokalaemia, hypomagnesaemia.
Precautions
Confirm diagnosis before initiating long-term therapy — symptom relief does not exclude malignancy. Monitor magnesium levels in patients on prolonged therapy. Drug interactions: may affect absorption of drugs requiring acidic environment (e.g., ketoconazole, iron salts). Prescription required.
