Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses concentrated light energy to permanently reduce unwanted hair. The laser targets the melanin (pigment) in hair follicles, damaging them to inhibit future growth.
How It Works
The laser emits light that is absorbed by the melanin in hair follicles. The light energy converts to heat, which damages the follicle enough to retard future hair growth. Multiple sessions are needed because hair grows in cycles and the laser only affects active growth phase (anagen) hairs.
Key Facts
- Sessions needed: 6-8 sessions for significant reduction.
- Best candidates: Dark hair on lighter skin responds best.
- Maintenance: Annual touch-up sessions may be needed.
- Areas treated: Face, underarms, legs, bikini, back, and more.
After Care
Avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks. Use SPF 50+ on treated areas. Avoid heat (saunas, hot showers) for 24-48 hours.
