Apiban 2.5mg Tablet – Apixaban Direct Oral Anticoagulant (DOAC)

Apiban 2.5mg Tablet by Highnoon Laboratories contains apixaban, a direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) that selectively inhibits factor Xa in the clotting cascade. The 2.5 mg strength is used for stroke prevention in non-valvular atrial fibrillation (in selected patients meeting dose-reduction criteria), extended treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE), and clot prevention after hip or knee replacement surgery.

How Apixaban Works

By blocking factor Xa, apixaban interrupts the formation of thrombin and reduces clot formation in the veins, heart and arteries. This lowers the risk of stroke, systemic embolism, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) without the routine INR monitoring required with warfarin.

• Stroke and systemic embolism prevention in non-valvular atrial fibrillation
• Extended (long-term) prevention of recurrent DVT and PE
• Post-operative VTE prevention after hip or knee replacement

How to Take Apiban 2.5mg

Take exactly as prescribed, usually twice daily with or without food, at roughly 12-hour intervals. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember on the same day; do not double the next dose.

CRITICAL Safety Warning — Do Not Stop Without Medical Advice

Do NOT stop Apiban suddenly. Premature discontinuation significantly increases the risk of stroke, blood clots and life-threatening thrombotic events. Any decision to stop or switch anticoagulant must be made by your doctor with bridging if required.

Important Safety Information

• Bleeding risk: Apixaban increases bleeding risk. Seek urgent care for unusual bruising, prolonged bleeding, blood in urine or stool, black tarry stools, coughing blood, severe headache or unexplained weakness.
• Dental, surgical & procedural disclosure: Always tell dentists, surgeons and other prescribers that you take apixaban before any procedure — dose adjustment or temporary discontinuation may be needed.
• Drug interactions: Strong CYP3A4/P-gp inhibitors (ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir) raise apixaban levels; rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine and St John’s wort lower levels. Combining with other anticoagulants, antiplatelets (aspirin, clopidogrel) or NSAIDs increases bleeding risk.
• Pregnancy & breastfeeding: Not recommended — discuss with your doctor.
• Renal/hepatic impairment: Dose adjustment or avoidance may be required.
• Mechanical heart valves & moderate-to-severe mitral stenosis: Apixaban is not suitable.
