How Azithromycin Works
Azithromycin binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria and blocks protein synthesis, stopping bacterial growth and multiplication. It concentrates inside infected tissues and immune cells, producing sustained antibacterial effect well after the last dose.

Important Safety Information

- GI effects: Diarrhoea is common; severe or persistent diarrhoea may indicate C. difficile colitis and requires medical attention.
- Drug interactions: Caution with warfarin, digoxin, ciclosporin, ergot derivatives and other QT-prolonging agents.
- Hypersensitivity: Do not use if you are allergic to azithromycin or other macrolides (erythromycin, clarithromycin).
- Not effective against viral infections such as influenza or the common cold.
