Benprost 20mcg Tablet — Beraprost Sodium for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

Benprost 20mcg Tablet contains Beraprost Sodium, the world's first orally bioavailable prostacyclin (PGI2) analog. As an IP receptor agonist, Beraprost dilates pulmonary blood vessels, reduces pulmonary vascular resistance, and inhibits platelet aggregation — addressing the key pathophysiological drivers of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).

PAH is a progressive and potentially life-threatening condition characterised by elevated pulmonary artery pressure, right heart strain, and severely reduced exercise capacity. Benprost improves exercise tolerance, reduces dyspnoea (breathlessness), and improves WHO functional class in PAH patients. It may also be prescribed for peripheral arterial disease to improve limb blood flow. For cardiac and vascular medicines, browse our General Medicines collection. For blood pressure management, see our Anti-Hypertensive collection.

Important: Do not stop Benprost abruptly — rapid PAH deterioration can occur. Patients on anticoagulants require close monitoring due to additive antiplatelet effects. Prescription (Rx) required.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is Beraprost Sodium (Benprost)?A: Beraprost is a synthetic prostacyclin (PGI2) analog that mimics the natural vasodilator prostacyclin. It is the first oral prostacyclin analog approved for PAH treatment. Q2: Is Benprost a cure for PAH?A: No — it manages symptoms and slows progression but does not cure PAH. It is part of a long-term management plan. Q3: What side effects should I watch for?A: Common effects include flushing, headache, jaw pain, diarrhoea, and leg pain. These are often prostacyclin class effects. Notify your doctor if severe. Q4: Can Benprost be used with anticoagulants?A: Caution is required — Beraprost inhibits platelet aggregation. Combined use with anticoagulants or antiplatelets increases bleeding risk. Q5: Is a prescription required?A: Yes — specialised Rx medicine. Send your prescription to WhatsApp +92-320-5999650 or sales@derma.pk.
