Description
What is Blaze 50mg?
Blaze 50mg Tablets contain Losartan Potassium 50mg — an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) prescribed for hypertension, diabetic nephropathy, and stroke prevention in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). It is a prescription-only medicine (Rx) manufactured by Mass Pharma.
How Does Blaze 50mg Work?
Losartan selectively blocks the AT1 subtype of the angiotensin II receptor. This prevents angiotensin II from causing vasoconstriction and aldosterone release, resulting in vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Unlike ACE inhibitors, it does not increase bradykinin, so it does not cause the characteristic dry cough. Losartan also inhibits the URAT1 uric acid transporter in the kidney, producing a mild uricosuric effect — a clinically useful property in hypertensive patients with gout or elevated uric acid.
Uses of Blaze 50mg
Blaze 50mg is indicated for: essential hypertension, reduction of cardiovascular events in hypertensive patients with LVH (LIFE trial evidence), diabetic nephropathy with proteinuria in Type 2 diabetes (RENAAL trial evidence), and heart failure as an alternative when ACE inhibitors are not tolerated.
Dosage & Administration
The usual starting dose is 50mg once daily, with or without food. Your doctor may adjust to 25mg (in volume-depleted patients or those with hepatic impairment) or increase to 100mg once daily for additional BP lowering. Take at the same time each day. Do not stop without consulting your doctor.
Side Effects
Common: dizziness, hypotension (especially at initiation), hyperkalemia. Losartan does not cause the dry cough associated with ACE inhibitors. Rare but serious: angioedema — seek immediate medical attention if swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat occurs. Monitor renal function and serum potassium, especially in patients with renal impairment or on potassium-sparing diuretics.
Precautions
Blaze 50mg is contraindicated in pregnancy — ARBs can cause fetal renal toxicity and death during the second and third trimesters. Use effective contraception. Contraindicated with aliskiren in patients with diabetes or renal impairment. Use with caution in bilateral renal artery stenosis. This is a prescription medicine — always use under medical supervision.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What makes Losartan different from ACE inhibitors like Coversyl?
A: Losartan blocks the angiotensin II receptor directly and does not raise bradykinin levels, so it does not cause the dry cough seen with ACE inhibitors. Compare with Coversyl 4mg (Perindopril).
Q: Can Blaze 50mg be used in patients with gout?
A: Yes — losartan has a unique uricosuric property that mildly lowers serum uric acid, making it a preferred ARB choice in hypertensive patients with hyperuricaemia or gout.
Q: Is Blaze 50mg available without prescription in Pakistan?
A: No. It is a prescription (Rx) medicine. Upload your prescription and order via Derma.pk Anti-Hypertensive with nationwide delivery.

How To Use
Take 1 tablet (50mg) once daily with or without food, at the same time each day. Your doctor may adjust the dose to 25mg (in volume-depleted or hepatically impaired patients) or up to 100mg/day for additional BP control. Do not stop without consulting your doctor. Monitor blood pressure and serum potassium regularly. Prescription required.
FAQs
Why choose Losartan over an ACE inhibitor for hypertension?
Losartan (ARB) does not raise bradykinin, so it does not cause the persistent dry cough that affects ~10-20% of ACE inhibitor users. It is the preferred alternative when ACE inhibitor cough is intolerable.
Can Blaze 50mg be used in patients with gout?
Yes — Losartan has a unique uricosuric property that mildly lowers serum uric acid, making it a preferred choice in hypertensive patients with hyperuricaemia or gout.
Is Blaze 50mg available without a prescription in Pakistan?
No — it is a prescription (Rx) medicine. Upload your prescription at Derma.pk and order with nationwide COD delivery.
