Cedrox 500mg Capsules contain cefadroxil 500 mg, a first-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by disrupting bacterial cell-wall synthesis, killing susceptible Gram-positive bacteria such as Group A streptococci and methicillin-sensitive staphylococci, plus selected Gram-negatives. The 500 mg capsule is the most flexible adult and adolescent strength, and is typically dosed twice daily.
This strength is commonly prescribed for streptococcal pharyngitis and tonsillitis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, mild-to-moderate skin and soft-tissue infections (such as impetigo and cellulitis) and other infections caused by sensitive organisms. As cefadroxil is a beta-lactam, patients with a documented severe allergy to penicillins or other cephalosporins should NOT take it without specialist guidance because of potential cross-reactivity.
