Covate Lotion contains Clobetasol Propionate 0.05%, a very potent (Class I) topical corticosteroid by Crystolite Pharmaceuticals. It is prescribed for severe, treatment-resistant inflammatory psoriasis, eczema, neurodermatitis, and discoid lupus erythematosus that do not respond to milder steroids.

Composition

  • Clobetasol Propionate: 0.05% w/v

Indications

  • Psoriasis (scalp and body)
  • Eczema and neurodermatitis
  • Discoid lupus erythematosus
  • Severe inflammatory skin conditions unresponsive to less potent steroids

Dosage & Administration

Apply a thin layer to affected area twice daily (morning and night). Do not exceed 2 weeks of continuous use without medical review. Maximum 50g per week for adults. Do not use under occlusive dressings unless directed by your doctor.

Important Warnings

  • Very potent steroid — Clobetasol Propionate is a Class I corticosteroid; use only under medical supervision
  • Do not apply to face, groin or armpits for prolonged periods (risk of skin atrophy and systemic absorption)
  • Risk of adrenal suppression with large areas, prolonged use, or occlusion
  • Prolonged use may cause skin thinning, stretch marks (striae), and telangiectasia
  • Not for acne, rosacea, or perioral dermatitis — corticosteroids worsen these conditions

Contraindications

  • Rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis
  • Primary cutaneous viral infections
  • Hypersensitivity to Clobetasol Propionate or any excipient

Storage

Store below 30°C. Protect from light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.

• Very potent Class I corticosteroid — effective on thick, resistant skin plaques unresponsive to milder steroids • Reduces inflammation rapidly — relieves redness, swelling, and intense itch within days • Treats psoriasis and eczema — targets both chronic plaque psoriasis and inflamed eczema • Suitable for scalp application — lotion formulation spreads easily through hair-bearing areas • Works on neurodermatitis — reduces the itch-scratch cycle in lichenified skin • Discoid lupus erythematosus — helps manage skin manifestations under medical supervision • Convenient 60ml lotion bottle — easy to apply and dose-control

As directed by your dermatologist. General guidance: Apply a thin layer to the affected area twice daily (morning and night). Cover the area completely but do not apply under occlusive dressings unless directed. Do not use for more than 2 weeks continuously without medical review. Maximum recommended dose: 50g per week for adults. Do not apply to the face, groin, or axillae for prolonged periods. Avoid contact with eyes. For external use only. Prescription required.

Q: Do I need a prescription for Covate Lotion? A: Yes. Clobetasol Propionate is a Class I (very potent) corticosteroid and is a prescription-only (Rx) medicine in Pakistan. Consult a registered dermatologist before use. Q: How long can I use Covate Lotion? A: Do not use continuously for more than 2 weeks without medical review. The maximum recommended dose is 50g per week for adults. Q: Can I use Covate Lotion on my face, groin, or armpits? A: Prolonged use on the face, groin, or axillae is not recommended. These are thin-skinned, high-absorption areas where corticosteroid side effects (skin atrophy, striae) are more likely. Use only if specifically directed by your doctor. Q: What are the possible side effects? A: Common side effects include burning, stinging, irritation, and itching at the application site. With prolonged use or large surface areas, systemic effects including adrenal suppression are possible. Report any unusual side effects to your doctor. Q: Can prolonged use cause skin thinning? A: Yes. Like all potent topical steroids, prolonged use can cause skin atrophy (thinning), stretch marks (striae), and telangiectasia. This is why treatment duration must be limited and supervised. Q: Is Covate Lotion safe during pregnancy? A: The safety of Clobetasol Propionate in pregnancy is not established. Consult your doctor before use. Q: Can I use Covate Lotion for acne or rosacea? A: No. Clobetasol is contraindicated in acne vulgaris, rosacea, and perioral dermatitis. Corticosteroids can worsen these conditions.
