What is D Cam?

D Cam Soft Gel Capsules are an OTC dietary supplement containing Calcium and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) in a soft gel formulation. The oil-based soft gel base enhances absorption of fat-soluble Vitamin D3. How Does D Cam Work?

Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) is hydroxylated in the liver and kidneys to its active form, calcitriol, which increases intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphorus, reduces urinary calcium loss, and promotes bone mineralisation. Without adequate Vitamin D3, dietary calcium is poorly absorbed regardless of intake. The soft gel vehicle improves bioavailability of fat-soluble D3 compared to plain tablets, especially in patients with fat malabsorption.

Uses of D Cam

D Cam is indicated for Vitamin D and calcium deficiency, prevention and adjunct treatment of osteoporosis, support for bone fracture healing, muscle weakness or cramps due to hypocalcaemia, and in patients on long-term corticosteroids (which impair calcium absorption).

Dosage & Administration

Take one soft gel capsule daily after a meal or as directed by your doctor. Swallow whole with water — do not crush or chew. Taking with a meal (particularly one containing fat) enhances absorption of fat-soluble Vitamin D3. For long-term or therapeutic use, serum calcium and 25-OH-Vitamin D levels should be monitored periodically.

Side Effects

D Cam is generally well tolerated. Excessive doses may lead to hypercalcaemia (symptoms: nausea, vomiting, weakness, polyuria). Mild gastrointestinal upset may occur. If you develop symptoms of hypercalcaemia, stop use and consult your doctor.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have hypercalcaemia, renal calculi, or sarcoidosis (conditions that increase sensitivity to Vitamin D). Avoid concurrent use of other calcium or vitamin D supplements without medical advice. Use caution in patients on thiazide diuretics (which reduce urinary calcium excretion and may cause hypercalcaemia). Consult your doctor before use during pregnancy.
