D4u 200,000IU Injection is a high-potency Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) preparation containing 5mg/mL cholecalciferol, formulated for the correction of severe Vitamin D deficiency in children and adults. At a supra-physiological dose of 200,000 IU, it rapidly replenishes depleted stores and is especially effective in patients with malabsorption syndromes, chronic illness, or drug-induced Vitamin D depletion.
In children, D4u is used to prevent and treat rickets, a condition of impaired bone mineralisation causing skeletal deformities. In adults, it is indicated for osteomalacia — bone softening due to inadequate mineralisation — and for refractory deficiency states that do not respond to oral supplementation. Due to the high dose, Vitamin D toxicity (hypercalcaemia, hypercalciuria) is possible if repeated doses are given without monitoring.
