Dapakan 250mg Tablets — Sodium Valproate Mood Stabiliser
Description
Dapakan 250mg Tablets — Sodium Valproate for Bipolar Mania & Seizure Control
Dapakan 250mg Tablets contain sodium valproate / divalproex sodium, a broad-spectrum antiepileptic and mood stabiliser. It increases central GABA activity and modulates sodium and calcium channels in the brain, reducing abnormal neuronal firing. The 250 mg strength is widely used in adults for acute and maintenance treatment of bipolar manic episodes, for generalised and focal epilepsy, and for prevention of recurrent migraine.
In bipolar disorder Dapakan helps reduce elevated mood, irritability, agitation, impulsivity and reduced need for sleep, supporting return to baseline function. In epilepsy it lowers seizure frequency across generalised tonic-clonic, absence, myoclonic and focal seizures. Do NOT stop sodium valproate suddenly — abrupt discontinuation can precipitate breakthrough seizures or rebound mood symptoms. Dose changes must be made gradually under medical supervision.
Dapakan is prescription required. Important warnings include hepatotoxicity (especially in the first 6 months and in children under 2 years), pancreatitis, hyperammonaemic encephalopathy, thrombocytopenia and weight gain. Sodium valproate is teratogenic and CONTRAINDICATED in pregnancy — it causes neural-tube defects and neurodevelopmental harm; women and girls of childbearing potential must be on a pregnancy-prevention programme with effective contraception. Seek urgent care for vomiting, abdominal pain, jaundice, confusion or unusual bruising/bleeding. Explore related options in our neurology range and mental health collection.
