Differin Gel 15g — Adapalene 0.1% + Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% | Dual-Action Acne Gel | Rx

Differin Gel is a prescription dual-action acne treatment gel combining Adapalene 0.1% (a third-generation retinoid) and Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%. It targets two primary drivers of acne vulgaris simultaneously: follicular plugging (comedone formation) and bacterial colonisation (Cutibacterium acnes). Indicated for patients aged 12 and above.

Composition

  • Adapalene: 0.1% w/w (retinoid)
  • Benzoyl Peroxide: 2.5% w/w (antibacterial)

How It Works

Adapalene (a retinoid) normalises keratinocyte differentiation and reduces follicular hyperkeratosis, preventing clogged pores and comedone formation. Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% provides oxidative antibacterial action against Cutibacterium acnes without promoting antibiotic resistance. Together they address comedonal and inflammatory acne lesions.

Indications

  • Acne vulgaris (comedonal and inflammatory) in patients aged 12 and above

Dosage

Apply a thin layer to affected areas once daily (usually at night) after gentle cleansing. Avoid eyes, lips, and mucous membranes.

Important Precautions

  • Sun protection essential — Adapalene increases photosensitivity; use broad-spectrum sunscreen daily
  • Do not use during pregnancy — Adapalene is a retinoid
  • Avoid with sulfur, resorcinol, salicylic acid, abrasive cleansers, or high-alcohol products (increased irritation)
  • Initial dryness, redness, and scaling are common in first 2–4 weeks and usually settle
  • Not for children under 12 (safety not established)
  • For topical use only — not for ophthalmic, oral, or intravaginal use

Storage

Store at 20–25°C (excursions permitted 15–30°C). Protect from light and heat. Keep tube tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children.

• Dual-action formula — Adapalene (retinoid) + Benzoyl Peroxide together target both follicular plugging and bacterial causes of acne • Retinoid action — Adapalene 0.1% normalises keratinocyte differentiation, preventing clogged pores and comedone formation • Antibacterial action — Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% kills Cutibacterium acnes without promoting antibiotic resistance • Proven in clinical studies — established treatment combination for acne vulgaris in guidelines • Suitable from age 12 — effective for both teen and adult acne • Treats inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne — works on comedones, papules, and pustules • Compact 15g tube — concentrated treatment, ideal for targeted facial use

As directed by your dermatologist. General guidance: Gently cleanse the treatment area before application. Apply a thin layer of Differin Gel to affected areas once daily (usually at night). Avoid eyes, lips, and mucous membranes. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily during treatment — Adapalene increases photosensitivity. Avoid concurrent use with products containing sulfur, resorcinol, salicylic acid, medicated soaps, or high-alcohol astringents as these increase irritation. Initial irritation (dryness, redness, scaling) is common and usually reduces after 2–4 weeks. Do not use during pregnancy. Prescription required.

Q: Do I need a prescription for Differin Gel in Pakistan? A: Yes. Differin Gel containing Adapalene + Benzoyl Peroxide is a prescription-only (Rx) product in Pakistan. Consult a registered dermatologist before use. Q: What does Adapalene do in Differin Gel? A: Adapalene is a third-generation retinoid. It normalises skin cell turnover, unclogs pores, and prevents the formation of comedones (blackheads and whiteheads) — addressing a root cause of acne. Q: Why is sun protection important when using Differin Gel? A: Adapalene increases the skin's sensitivity to sunlight. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning during treatment to prevent sunburn and skin damage. Q: Can I use Differin Gel with other acne products? A: Avoid combining with products containing sulfur, resorcinol, salicylic acid, medicated or abrasive cleansers, or high-alcohol products — these combinations increase irritation significantly. Q: My skin is peeling and red after starting Differin Gel. Is this normal? A: Mild irritation, dryness, redness, and scaling are common in the first 2–4 weeks as the skin adjusts. This usually settles with continued use. If severe, consult your dermatologist. Q: Can Differin Gel be used during pregnancy? A: No. Adapalene (a retinoid) is not recommended during pregnancy. Consult your doctor immediately if you become pregnant while using this product. Q: How long until I see results? A: Noticeable improvement typically begins at 8–12 weeks. Complete the full prescribed course for best results.
