Domel Tablets 10mg – Domperidone for Nausea & Vomiting Relief
Description
Domel Tablets 10mg – Domperidone for Nausea & Vomiting Relief
Domel Tablets 10mg contain Domperidone 10mg, an Rx dopamine D2 receptor antagonist used for adults experiencing nausea, vomiting, and symptoms of gastroparesis (delayed gastric emptying). Domperidone acts peripherally on the chemoreceptor trigger zone (outside the blood-brain barrier), blocking the vomiting reflex without the central CNS side effects of older antiemetics. Its gastrokinetic action also accelerates gastric emptying and improves gastro-oesophageal motility, relieving bloating and postprandial discomfort.
- Rx antiemetic: blocks peripheral dopamine D2 receptors to stop vomiting reflex
- Gastrokinetic benefit: improves gastric emptying and reduces bloating
- Adults only — use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration
- Caution: patients over 60, cardiac conduction abnormalities, or electrolyte disturbances
How to Use Domel Tablets 10mg

FAQs
Why is Domperidone classified as Rx (prescription-only) in Pakistan?
Domperidone can prolong the cardiac QT interval at higher doses or in susceptible patients (elderly, cardiac disease, electrolyte disturbances). Medical oversight ensures appropriate patient selection and dose limitation.
How does Domperidone differ from Metoclopramide?
Both are dopamine antagonists and prokinetics. Domperidone acts peripherally (outside the blood-brain barrier), causing fewer CNS side effects like extrapyramidal reactions. Metoclopramide crosses the BBB and can cause sedation and tardive dyskinesia with prolonged use.
Can elderly patients use Domel Tablets safely?
Patients over 60 should use domperidone under close medical supervision and at the lowest effective dose, as they have a higher risk of cardiac arrhythmias and are more susceptible to QT prolongation.
