Empaa M 12.5/500mg is a fixed-dose combination of Empagliflozin 12.5mg (SGLT2 inhibitor) and Metformin 500mg (biguanide) for type 2 diabetes mellitus management in adults. Unlike the XR formulation, this is an immediate-release tablet providing prompt onset of action. Empagliflozin lowers blood glucose by blocking renal glucose reabsorption (SGLT2), while metformin reduces hepatic glucose output and improves insulin sensitivity. Together they provide stronger glycaemic control than monotherapy.
In addition to glycaemic benefits, empagliflozin offers proven cardiovascular and renal protection, lowering risks of hospitalisation for heart failure and progression of diabetic nephropathy. Not recommended for eGFR below 45 mL/min/1.73m².
