  • Lidocaine USP 25 mg (2.5% w/w) per gram
  • Prilocaine USP 25 mg (2.5% w/w) per gram

Indications

Epinum Cream is used for dermal anaesthesia before minor procedures:

  • Needle procedures — venepuncture, IV cannulation, vaccinations
  • Laser treatment — explore our cream and ointment range for dermatology
  • Curettage of molluscum contagiosum in paediatric patients
  • Leg ulcer cleansing and debridement
  • Genital mucosa procedures (faster onset: 15–20 minutes)

Application Timing — Important

  • Intact skin: Apply 60 minutes before procedure under occlusive dressing
  • Genital mucosa: Apply 15–20 minutes before procedure
  • Leg ulcers: Apply 30 minutes before cleansing
  • Remove cream and dressing just before the procedure

Warnings & Contraindications

  • Do NOT apply to broken, damaged, or inflamed skin
  • Avoid contact with eyes — rinse immediately if contact occurs
  • Hypersensitivity to Lidocaine, Prilocaine, or amide-type anaesthetics
  • Do not use in infants under 37 weeks gestational age (risk of methaemoglobinaemia)
  • Caution in G6PD deficiency and atopic dermatitis
  • Caution in patients on Class I antiarrhythmics

A: Apply Epinum Cream at least 60 minutes before the procedure under an occlusive dressing for intact skin. For genital mucosa, 15–20 minutes is sufficient. For leg ulcer cleansing, apply 30 minutes prior. Q: Can Epinum Cream be used on broken or damaged skin? A: No. Epinum Cream must not be applied to broken, damaged, or inflamed skin. It is for use on intact skin only. Q: Is Epinum Cream safe for children? A: It is effective and used in paediatric patients for various procedures. However, it must not be used in infants under 37 weeks gestational age due to the risk of methemoglobinemia. Q: Can Epinum Cream be used in elderly patients? A: Yes. Epinum is safe and efficacious in the elderly population without dose adjustment. Q: Are there any drug interactions? A: Caution is required in patients on Class I antiarrhythmic drugs (e.g., tocainide, mexiletine) as cardiac effects may accumulate. Inform your doctor of all medications. Q: Can patients with G6PD deficiency use Epinum Cream? A: Caution is required. Patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency are at higher risk of methaemoglobinaemia.
