Etrizine-L (Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride): Your Solution to Allergic Conditions

Etrizine-L by Derma Tecno is a levocetirizine antihistamine for allergic conditions, and is part of our Power Brands range.

Etrizine-L tablets are the levoisomer of cetirizine (levocetirizine) with double the affinity for H1 receptors, offering rapid and long-lasting antihistaminic action compared to cetirizine.

Composition

Each film-coated tablet contains: Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride (M.S) 5mg

Indications

Etrizine-L tablets are indicated in patients 6 years and above for the treatment of allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis (seasonal and perennial), allergic conjunctivitis, and chronic idiopathic urticaria.

Mode of Action

Etrizine-L is a potent, selective, peripheral H1 receptor antagonist with negligible effects on other receptors.

Dosage

  • In adults and children older than 6 years: The recommended daily dose of Etrizine-L is 5mg.
  • In children aged 2 to 6 years: The recommended daily dose of Etrizine-L tablets is 2.5mg in two divided doses.
  • In patients with renal impairment: The dose should be adjusted according to creatinine clearance.

Pharmacokinetics

  • Etrizine-L tablets reach peak plasma levels in approximately 1 hour.
  • They achieve steady-state plasma levels by the second day.
  • Etrizine-L tablets are extensively bound to blood components, with approximately 76% as the free fraction.
  • Poorly metabolized (14% of the total oral dose).

Pharmacodynamics

  • Double affinity for human H1 receptors compared to cetirizine.
  • No effect on the QT interval.
  • More effective in treating seasonal allergic rhinitis during prolonged pollen exposure compared to desloratadine.
  • Rapid onset of action (1 hour) and longer duration compared to desloratadine.
  • Superior in treating nasal congestion after the first dose.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any of the inactive ingredients.
  • Glucose-galactose malabsorption, lactase deficiency, hereditary galactose intolerance.
  • Severe renal impairment.

Side Effects

Common side effects include redness, lack of concentration, somnolence, headache, agitation, dry mouth, constipation, and hypersensitivity reactions. These side effects are usually mild to moderate.
