Gempaz 10mg Tablets — Empagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes Management
Description
Gempaz 10mg Tablets — Empagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes
Gempaz 10mg Tablets contain Empagliflozin 10mg, a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor used for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in adults. By blocking the SGLT2 transporter in the kidneys, Empagliflozin reduces reabsorption of glucose back into the bloodstream and promotes its excretion through the urine — lowering blood sugar levels effectively.
Beyond glycaemic control, clinical evidence shows that Empagliflozin reduces the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack and cardiovascular death in diabetic patients with established heart disease. It is prescribed as monotherapy or as add-on to other antidiabetic agents including metformin and insulin.
Key Benefits / Uses
- Lowers blood glucose by increasing urinary glucose excretion (SGLT2 inhibition)
- Reduces the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in T2DM patients
- Supports modest weight loss and reduction in blood pressure
- Once-daily oral dosing for convenient management
- May slow progression of diabetic kidney disease
How to Use
Take Gempaz 10mg once daily in the morning, with or without food, as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Maintain adequate fluid intake throughout the day. Your doctor may adjust the dose to 25mg if further glycaemic control is needed. Monitor blood glucose regularly and follow your prescribed diet and exercise plan.
Safety Information
- Rx — prescription required. Use only under medical supervision.
- Risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA): SGLT2 inhibitors can cause DKA, sometimes at near-normal blood glucose levels. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, excessive thirst, difficulty breathing or confusion.
- Hold before surgery and contrast procedures: Temporarily stop Gempaz at least 3–4 days before major surgery or iodinated contrast administration to reduce DKA risk.
- May cause urinary tract infections and genital mycotic (fungal) infections.
- May cause volume depletion — use caution in elderly patients and those on diuretics.
- Not recommended in patients with type 1 diabetes or severe renal impairment.
