How to Use

Safety Information

• Rx — prescription required.
• Risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA): SGLT2 inhibitors including Empagliflozin can cause DKA even at near-normal glucose levels. Stop medication and seek urgent care if symptoms occur (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, rapid breathing, confusion).
• Hold before surgery or contrast procedures: Discontinue at least 3–4 days before elective surgery or iodinated contrast imaging.
• Metformin — renal caution: Monitor kidney function regularly. Withhold if eGFR falls below threshold or during acute illness to avoid lactic acidosis.
• May cause genital mycotic infections and urinary tract infections.
• Risk of hypoglycaemia increases when combined with insulin or sulphonylureas.
• Not suitable for Type 1 diabetes or patients with severe renal/hepatic impairment.
