Maxpan 400mg Capsules – Cefixime Antibiotic for Bacterial Infections

Maxpan 400mg Capsules contain Cefixime, a third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. Cefixime binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) on the bacterial cell wall, inhibiting the final stage of peptidoglycan cross-linking. This disrupts bacterial cell wall integrity, causing osmotic instability and bacterial cell death. Cefixime is stable against many beta-lactamases, making it effective against organisms resistant to earlier-generation antibiotics.

Maxpan 400mg is prescribed for urinary tract infections (UTIs), respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis), otitis media (ear infections), pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and uncomplicated gonorrhoea. It is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It should not be used for viral infections. Complete the full prescribed course to ensure complete bacterial eradication and prevent resistance.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Maxpan 400mg used for?A: Maxpan 400mg (Cefixime) treats bacterial infections of the urinary tract, respiratory system, ears (otitis media), throat (pharyngitis, tonsillitis), and skin. Q: How does Cefixime work?A: Cefixime binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), disrupting bacterial cell wall synthesis and causing bacterial cell death. Q: I have a penicillin allergy — is Cefixime safe?A: Inform your doctor of any penicillin allergy before use — cross-sensitivity between penicillins and cephalosporins exists, though the risk with third-generation cephalosporins is low. Q: Can I stop taking Maxpan once I feel better?A: No — always complete the full course to prevent antibiotic resistance and ensure the infection is fully cleared. Q: Is a prescription required?A: Yes. Maxpan 400mg is a prescription antibiotic. Do not self-medicate.
