The bactericidal action of Moxifloxacin occurs by inhibiting topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, repair, and transcription. By blocking these enzymes, Moxifloxacin prevents bacteria from reproducing, ultimately eradicating the infection. The unique C8-methoxy moiety enhances activity against Gram-positive bacteria and reduces the development of resistant strains, while the bulky bicycloamine group at C7 prevents bacterial efflux mechanisms that cause antibiotic resistance.
