Neoris 1mg Tablet – Risperidone (Atypical Antipsychotic, Starting Dose)

Neoris 1mg contains Risperidone 1mg, an atypical antipsychotic that antagonises dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. The 1mg dose is the starting dose for schizophrenia and is also used in bipolar mania. It helps reduce delusions, hallucinations, and disorganised thinking.

Prescription Required. Available at Derma.pk with valid prescription.

Important monitoring: Regular metabolic monitoring (weight, blood glucose, lipids) is recommended. May cause extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) at higher doses. May elevate prolactin levels. Do not stop abruptly; taper as directed by your psychiatrist.

FAQs

Why is Neoris 1mg considered a starting dose?

1mg is the recommended initiation dose for Risperidone in schizophrenia. The dose is typically titrated upwards (usually to 4–8mg/day) based on clinical response and tolerability under psychiatrist supervision.

What metabolic monitoring is required?

Risperidone can cause weight gain, elevated blood glucose (hyperglycaemia), and dyslipidaemia. Regular monitoring of weight, blood sugar, and lipid profile is recommended during treatment.

Can Risperidone cause movement disorders?

Yes — extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) such as tremor, rigidity, and restlessness can occur, especially at higher doses. These are less common at the 1mg starting dose. Report any movement abnormalities to your doctor.

Does Risperidone affect prolactin levels?

Yes — Risperidone elevates prolactin, which can cause galactorrhoea, amenorrhoea, or sexual dysfunction. Inform your doctor if you experience these effects.

Can Neoris be stopped suddenly?

No — abrupt discontinuation is not recommended as it may cause withdrawal symptoms or relapse. Always taper under your psychiatrist's guidance.
