Description
Olepra 5mg Tablets — Olanzapine Atypical Antipsychotic (Rx)
Olepra 5mg Tablets contain Olanzapine 5mg, the lower-strength formulation of this second-generation (atypical) antipsychotic. This dose is appropriate for initiating treatment, elderly patients, patients requiring dose titration, or those on maintenance therapy after stabilisation at a higher dose. Olanzapine's receptor profile — D2/D3/D4 dopamine, 5-HT2A serotonin, H1 histamine, M1 muscarinic, and α1-adrenergic antagonism — provides balanced antipsychotic effect with manageable side effects at this dose.
Olepra 5mg is indicated for:
- Schizophrenia — initiation or maintenance therapy
- Bipolar disorder — mild-to-moderate manic episodes, or continuation after acute phase
- Maintenance therapy — sustaining remission under psychiatric supervision
Monitoring requirements: Even at 5mg, metabolic parameters (weight, fasting glucose, lipids) must be tracked regularly. Olanzapine has the highest metabolic risk profile among atypical antipsychotics. Sedation is common — patients should avoid driving until stable on the dose.
Prescription-only medicine. Psychiatric supervision required for initiation and dose changes. Share your prescription at sales@derma.pk or WhatsApp 0320-5999650.

- Treats schizophrenia and bipolar disorder under psychiatric supervision
- Lower EPS risk vs. first-generation antipsychotics
- Monitor metabolic syndrome markers at all doses — weight, glucose, lipids
- Do not stop abruptly — relapse risk is significant

Usage & Benefits
- Treats schizophrenia and bipolar disorder — suitable for initiation or maintenance

How To Use

FAQs
When is the 5mg dose used instead of 10mg?
Olepra 5mg is used for treatment initiation (before titrating up), for elderly or sensitive patients, or for maintenance therapy once a patient is stabilised on a higher dose.
Does metabolic monitoring still apply at 5mg?
Yes — metabolic risk (weight gain, hyperglycaemia, dyslipidaemia) is a class effect of Olanzapine at all doses. Baseline and periodic monitoring are required.
How long does Olanzapine treatment last?
Duration is determined by the psychiatrist. For schizophrenia, long-term or lifelong maintenance is common to prevent relapse.
Is a prescription required for Olepra 5mg?
Yes — prescription-only medicine. Share your valid Rx at sales@derma.pk or WhatsApp 0320-5999650.
