Description
Omsana Diu 40/12.5mg Tablet
Omsana Diu 40/12.5mg Tablet is a prescription combination antihypertensive containing Olmesartan Medoxomil 40mg (angiotensin II receptor blocker / ARB) and Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg (HCTZ), a thiazide diuretic. It is used for moderate to severe hypertension where a stronger ARB dose combined with diuretic action is required.
The higher Olmesartan dose delivers robust angiotensin receptor blockade to relax blood vessels, while HCTZ removes excess salt and fluid through the kidneys — providing powerful dual-mechanism blood pressure reduction. This combination is prescribed when lower doses or single-agent therapy fails to achieve target BP, and it significantly reduces the risk of stroke, heart attack, and heart failure.
Important: Contraindicated in pregnancy due to teratogenicity of the ARB component. Avoid in severe renal impairment. Electrolyte monitoring (potassium, sodium, chloride) is essential as HCTZ can cause electrolyte imbalances. Take in the morning. Do not discontinue abruptly. Available on prescription only.

FAQs
When is Omsana Diu 40/12.5mg prescribed instead of the 20/12.5mg?
When the lower Olmesartan 20mg dose is insufficient. The 40mg delivers maximum ARB action for patients with severe or resistant hypertension.
What electrolyte checks are needed during treatment?
Regular monitoring of serum potassium, sodium, and creatinine is recommended. HCTZ can deplete potassium and sodium over time.
Why should this medicine be taken in the morning?
The HCTZ diuretic increases urine output. Morning dosing ensures most of the diuretic effect occurs during the day, not at night.
Is Omsana Diu 40/12.5mg safe in pregnancy?
No. Strictly contraindicated. Both Olmesartan and HCTZ are harmful to the developing foetus.
