Paromax CR 12.5mg Tablets — Paroxetine Controlled-Release SSRI (Rx)
Paromax CR 12.5mg Tablets contain Paroxetine Hydrochloride in a controlled-release (CR) formulation. Unlike immediate-release Paroxetine, the CR form uses a geomatrix delivery system to gradually release the drug over the day, reducing peak plasma concentration fluctuations. This results in fewer gastrointestinal side effects (nausea, diarrhoea) and is often better tolerated at treatment initiation — particularly important for patients who previously experienced GI intolerance with immediate-release Paroxetine.
Paromax CR 12.5mg carries the same clinical indications as immediate-release Paroxetine:
- Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
- Panic Disorder (with or without agoraphobia)
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD)
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Critical clinical notes — same as all Paroxetine formulations:
- Strongest CYP2D6 inhibitor among SSRIs — important drug–drug interactions; always review co-medications with prescribing doctor
- Most severe SSRI discontinuation syndrome (short half-life ~21h). The CR formulation does NOT eliminate discontinuation risk — gradual tapering under medical supervision is mandatory
- Anticholinergic side effects (dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention) possible
- Weight gain with long-term use
