Penro IV Injection 1000mg — Meropenem

Penro IV Injection 1000mg contains Meropenem, a broad-spectrum carbapenem beta-lactam antibiotic for intravenous administration. Meropenem inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), disrupting peptidoglycan cross-linking and causing bacterial cell death. It is active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, including many multi-drug-resistant pathogens.

Clinical Indications

  • Severe pneumonia, including hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated pneumonia
  • Bacterial meningitis — particularly where cephalosporin-resistant organisms are suspected
  • Septicaemia and bacteraemia due to susceptible organisms
  • Complicated intra-abdominal infections including peritonitis
  • Complicated urinary tract infections including pyelonephritis
  • Skin and soft tissue infections in hospitalised patients
  • Broncho-pulmonary infections in patients with cystic fibrosis

Administration

Penro IV 1000mg is for intravenous administration only by qualified healthcare professionals in a hospital or clinical setting. Reconstitute and dilute per local pharmacy protocol prior to IV infusion. Dosage and duration are determined by the treating physician based on infection type, severity, and patient renal function. Monitor renal function during therapy.

Important Information

Penro IV Injection is a prescription (Rx) hospital-use carbapenem antibiotic. A valid physician prescription is required. Not for self-administration. Inform the prescribing physician of any known hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics. Carbapenem antibiotics are restricted to severe or multi-drug-resistant infections to preserve clinical efficacy.

FAQs

What is Penro IV 1000mg used for?

Penro IV 1000mg Injection contains Meropenem and is indicated for severe bacterial infections including sepsis, hospital-acquired pneumonia, bacterial meningitis, complicated intra-abdominal and urinary tract infections in hospitalised patients.

Is Penro IV 1000mg available without prescription?

No. Meropenem is a restricted carbapenem antibiotic — prescription and hospital authorisation are required. It must be administered by healthcare professionals under clinical supervision.

Why is Meropenem reserved for severe infections?

Carbapenems are last-resort antibiotics reserved for severe or multi-drug-resistant bacterial infections. Limiting their use to appropriate clinical indications helps prevent the development of carbapenem-resistant organisms.
