Piozer 15mg Tablet contains Pioglitazone 15mg, a thiazolidinedione (TZD) oral antidiabetic used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It reduces hyperglycaemia by enhancing insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues, allowing cells to utilise glucose more effectively and lowering fasting and post-prandial blood glucose levels.
Piozer 15mg is prescribed as monotherapy or in combination with other diabetes medicines such as Metformin or Sulfonylureas when adequate glycaemic control is not achieved. Regular use, alongside a controlled diet and exercise, helps reduce the risk of long-term diabetic complications including neuropathy, nephropathy, and cardiovascular events.
Important Safety Information
- Bladder cancer risk: Prolonged use (>1 year) is associated with a small increased risk of bladder cancer. Report any haematuria or urinary symptoms to your doctor promptly.
- Heart failure: Pioglitazone can cause or worsen cardiac failure due to fluid retention. It is contraindicated in NYHA Class III/IV heart failure. Use with caution in patients with any cardiac or renal impairment.
- Fluid retention/oedema: Peripheral oedema is a known side effect; monitor for swelling especially in the lower limbs.
- Bone fracture risk: Increased risk of fractures has been reported, particularly in women. Exercise caution in patients at risk for osteoporosis.
- Weight gain: Mild weight gain is common during therapy.
- Hepatotoxicity: Rare. Monitor liver function if symptoms of hepatic dysfunction develop.
- Macular oedema: Report any visual disturbances; periodic eye monitoring is recommended.
