Prolexa 20mg Tablets (14s) — Escitalopram Oxalate (SSRI)
Prolexa 20mg Tablets contain Escitalopram Oxalate, the selective L-enantiomer SSRI used in the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD). The 20mg dose is the maximum recommended dose for most adults — it is the standard ceiling, and doses above 20mg are not recommended due to dose-dependent QTc prolongation risk.

- Most patients are titrated from 10mg; 20mg used when 10mg provides inadequate response after adequate trial (4–8 weeks)
- QTc prolongation: More clinically significant at 20mg — particularly in elderly patients, those with cardiac disease, hypokalaemia, or hypomagnesaemia. ECG monitoring advised.
- Elderly patients (≥65 years): Maximum recommended dose is 10mg — 20mg is not recommended.
Important Clinical Notes
- Serotonin syndrome risk: Avoid MAOIs, tramadol, triptans, linezolid, methylene blue — 14-day washout required after MAOI.
- Sexual dysfunction: Common at higher doses — discuss management options with prescriber.
- Discontinuation: Taper gradually — do not stop abruptly, especially from higher doses.
- Minimal CYP2D6 inhibition — cleaner interaction profile than paroxetine.

How To Use

Can I take Prolexa 20mg if I am on other medications for the heart?

How should I stop taking Prolexa 20mg?
