Retiac Retinol 2.5% Serum 30ml — High-Strength OTC Retinol for Anti-Aging

Retiac Retinol 2.5% Serum by Derresthetic is a high-strength OTC (over-the-counter) retinol serum delivering 2.5% Retinol — one of the highest concentrations available without a prescription. It targets fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, acne, and enlarged pores while stimulating collagen production for firmer, more radiant skin.

Important: 2.5% retinol is a high-strength formula. If you are new to retinol, start with 2–3 applications per week and always apply SPF 30+ the following morning. See the FAQ below for guidance on introducing retinol to your routine.

What Is Retinol? (OTC Vitamin A)

Retinol is a Vitamin A derivative available over the counter. Once applied to skin, it is gradually converted to retinoic acid — the active form — which accelerates cell turnover, stimulates collagen, and reduces visible signs of aging. This gradual conversion makes retinol gentler than prescription tretinoin (retinoic acid), though higher concentrations like 2.5% deliver potent results over time.

Key Actives

  • Retinol 2.5% — high-strength OTC Vitamin A; stimulates cell renewal and collagen synthesis
  • Hyaluronic Acid — hydrates and plumps skin, reducing tightness and flaking that can accompany retinol use
  • Vitamin E — antioxidant that protects skin and supports barrier repair
  • Organic Aloe Vera — soothes irritation and redness, especially important with potent retinol

Key Benefits

  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles through accelerated cell turnover and collagen stimulation
  • Fades age spots, sunspots, and hyperpigmentation
  • Minimises enlarged pores over time
  • Targets acne and comedones (blackheads/whiteheads)
  • Promotes skin rejuvenation and a radiant, youthful complexion
  • Improves skin elasticity and texture with consistent use

How to Use

Apply at night only to clean, dry skin. Use 2–3 times per week when starting; increase frequency gradually as skin builds tolerance. Apply SPF 30+ every morning without fail — retinol increases photosensitivity. Avoid use around eyes unless eyes are protected. Do not layer with AHAs/BHAs on same application night.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as tretinoin (prescription retinoic acid)?
No. Retinol and tretinoin are both Vitamin A derivatives, but they work differently. Tretinoin (prescription-only) is already in the active retinoic acid form and works immediately. Retinol must first convert to retinoic acid in the skin — a slower, more gradual process that makes it less irritating. Retiac Retinol 2.5% is an OTC product; no prescription is required.

2.5% seems very strong — is this safe for beginners?
2.5% is indeed a high-strength retinol. Retinol beginners should start on lower concentrations (0.25%–1%) and work up. If you are new to retinol, introduce Retiac at 2x/week only and gradually increase. Expect some initial dryness or flaking (retinisation) in the first 2–4 weeks.

Do I really need SPF with this product?
Yes — SPF use is essential. Retinol increases skin cell turnover, leaving newer, more sensitive cells exposed. Sun exposure without SPF will undermine results and increase risk of sun damage. Use SPF 30+ every morning, rain or shine.

Can I use this with my AHA or BHA exfoliant?
Avoid layering AHAs/BHAs on the same night as retinol to prevent over-irritation. Use them on alternate evenings. Always moisturise well after retinol application.

Can I use this if I have acne-prone skin?
Yes — retinol is beneficial for acne-prone skin as it reduces comedones and regulates cell turnover. Retiac contains Hyaluronic Acid and Aloe Vera to buffer irritation. Start slowly and monitor skin response.

FAQs

Is this the same as tretinoin (prescription retinoic acid)?

No. Retinol is an OTC Vitamin A derivative that converts to retinoic acid gradually in the skin. Tretinoin is prescription-only, already in the active form, and acts faster but causes more irritation. Retiac Retinol 2.5% requires no prescription.

Is 2.5% retinol safe for beginners?

2.5% is high-strength. Retinol beginners should ideally start at 0.25%–1% and work up. If starting directly with 2.5%, use only 2x/week initially, moisturise well, and be patient through the initial dryness or flaking phase (retinisation, typically 2–4 weeks).

Do I really need SPF with this product?

Yes — this is non-negotiable. Retinol increases skin sensitivity to UV radiation. Skipping SPF will undermine results and increase sun damage risk. Use SPF 30+ every single morning.

Can I use this with AHAs or BHAs?

Avoid using on the same night to prevent over-irritation. Alternate: retinol one evening, AHA/BHA the next evening.

Can I use Retiac if I have acne-prone skin?

Yes — retinol is one of the most effective OTC ingredients for acne as it reduces comedones and regulates cell turnover. The added Aloe Vera and Hyaluronic Acid help minimise dryness.
