Trivastal Retard 50mg Tablets contain Piribedil, a dopamine D2/D3 receptor agonist with additional alpha-2 adrenoceptor blocking activity. Piribedil is used in the management of Parkinson's disease — either as monotherapy in early disease or as adjunct therapy in combination with Levodopa in more advanced cases. By activating striatal dopamine receptors, it helps reduce the cardinal motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease including tremor, rigidity, and bradykinesia. The retard (prolonged-release) formulation provides sustained plasma levels and more consistent symptom control throughout the day, reducing motor fluctuations associated with short-acting agents.
Trivastal Retard may also be used for vascular insufficiency and cognitive symptoms associated with dopaminergic deficiency. Treatment should always be initiated and supervised by a neurologist. Do not discontinue abruptly — dose reduction should be gradual. Common side effects include nausea, dizziness, and in rare cases impulse control disorders.
