About Valmo Tablets 10mg/160mg

Valmo Tablets 10mg/160mg contain a fixed-dose combination of Amlodipine 10mg (a calcium channel blocker) and Valsartan 160mg (an angiotensin II receptor blocker / ARB). These two antihypertensive agents work through complementary mechanisms to lower blood pressure more effectively than either drug used alone.

Amlodipine relaxes peripheral blood vessels by blocking calcium entry into smooth muscle cells, reducing vascular resistance. Valsartan blocks the AT1 receptor for angiotensin II, preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone-mediated sodium retention. Together, they provide additive blood pressure reduction with a favourable tolerability profile.

Valmo 10mg/160mg is indicated for essential hypertension in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled on a single antihypertensive agent. It is a prescription-only medicine (Rx). Important: Valsartan is contraindicated in pregnancy (can cause fetal harm). Ankle oedema associated with Amlodipine may be more pronounced at the 10mg dose — report to your doctor if this occurs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between Valmo 10/160 and the lower-dose Valmo strengths?
A: The 10mg/160mg strength contains the highest dose of Amlodipine in the Valmo range. It is typically reserved for patients requiring more aggressive blood pressure control after titration from lower doses.

Q: Can Valmo Tablets cause ankle swelling?
A: Yes — ankle oedema is a known side effect of Amlodipine, particularly at higher doses. It is generally not dangerous but should be reported to your doctor if it is bothersome or worsening.

Q: Is Valmo 10mg/160mg safe in pregnancy?
A: No. Valsartan (ARB component) is contraindicated in pregnancy as it can cause serious fetal harm. Inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during treatment.
