Vildomet Tablets 50mg/850mg is a fixed-dose combination of two complementary anti-diabetic agents: Vildagliptin (DPP-4 inhibitor) and Metformin HCl (biguanide). Together they deliver dual-mechanism glycaemic control for adults with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) whose blood sugar is inadequately managed on Metformin alone.
Vildagliptin inhibits the DPP-4 enzyme, preventing the breakdown of GLP-1 and GIP incretins. This boosts glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and suppresses glucagon from alpha cells — only when blood glucose is elevated, minimising hypoglycaemia risk. Metformin HCl reduces hepatic glucose output, improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, and does not cause weight gain. Taking Vildomet with meals improves GI tolerability of the metformin component.

Who is Vildomet prescribed for?
Adults with Type 2 Diabetes whose blood sugar is inadequately controlled on Metformin monotherapy or who are suitable for a vildagliptin+metformin fixed-dose combination.
Why take Vildomet with meals?
Taking with food reduces the GI side effects (nausea, diarrhoea) of the Metformin component without affecting efficacy.
Does Vildomet cause hypoglycaemia?
The risk is low because Vildagliptin works glucose-dependently. However, combining with sulfonylureas or insulin increases hypoglycaemia risk.
Can Vildomet be used in renal impairment?
Metformin is contraindicated when eGFR <30 mL/min. Dose adjustment of Vildagliptin is required in moderate-to-severe renal impairment. Consult your nephrologist/endocrinologist.
