Vildos 50mg Tablets contain Vildagliptin, a selective DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4) inhibitor used for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Unlike the fixed-dose combination Vildomet (vildagliptin + metformin), Vildos is a monotherapy — providing vildagliptin alone for patients not yet requiring combination treatment or for use alongside other agents at the physician's discretion.
Vildagliptin works by preventing the breakdown of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), thereby increasing glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and suppressing excess glucagon. Because its action is glucose-dependent, the risk of hypoglycaemia is low compared to sulfonylureas. It can be used as monotherapy or added to Metformin, Sulfonylurea, or Insulin therapy.
