Zeenaryl 1mg — Glimepiride (Sulfonylurea) for Type 2 Diabetes

Zeenaryl 1mg Tablets contain Glimepiride, a third-generation long-acting sulfonylurea for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). 1mg is the standard starter dose, titrated upward under physician supervision to minimise hypoglycaemia risk.

Glimepiride stimulates pancreatic beta cells to release insulin by binding to ATP-sensitive potassium channels (SUR1). It also improves peripheral insulin sensitivity. Its once-daily dosing and long duration of action make it suitable for most T2DM patients who require a sulfonylurea. Take with the first main meal of the day — taking with food reduces hypoglycaemia risk. Avoid alcohol, which may potentiate glucose-lowering and cause flushing. Weight gain is a known class effect; monitor accordingly. Contraindicated in significant renal impairment.

Prescription Required. Available at Derma.pk with valid prescription.

Usage & Benefits

- Effective blood glucose lowering: Glimepiride closes ATP-sensitive K+ channels on beta cells, triggering insulin release to lower fasting and postprandial glucose.
- Once-daily dosing: Long pharmacological action means a single morning dose manages blood sugar throughout the day.
- Insulin sensitisation: Also improves peripheral glucose uptake, providing dual benefit beyond insulin secretion alone.
- Combination-friendly: Can be combined with Metformin, DPP-4 inhibitors, or insulin for stepwise T2DM management.
- Proven sulfonylurea class: Extensive clinical use and well-understood safety profile under physician supervision.

How To Use

1. Use as directed by your physician/endocrinologist. Typically taken once daily with the first main meal of the day to reduce hypoglycaemia risk. Swallow whole with water. Blood glucose monitoring is essential to guide dose titration. Avoid alcohol. Prescription Required.

FAQs

Why is 1mg the starting dose?

Starting at 1mg minimises the risk of hypoglycaemia. The dose is titrated upward at 1–2 mg increments at 1–2 week intervals based on blood glucose response, up to a maximum of 6–8mg/day.

What is the risk of hypoglycaemia with Zeenaryl?

Sulfonylureas can cause hypoglycaemia, especially if meals are delayed or skipped. Always take with food. Carry glucose tablets or juice as a precaution.

Can Zeenaryl cause weight gain?

Yes, weight gain is a known class effect of sulfonylureas due to increased insulin secretion. Monitor weight and discuss with your physician.

Is Zeenaryl safe in kidney disease?

Glimepiride is contraindicated in significant renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min). Dose adjustment or alternative agents are needed — consult your physician.

Can I drink alcohol while taking Zeenaryl?

Avoid alcohol. It can potentiate the glucose-lowering effect and cause severe hypoglycaemia, and may also cause a disulfiram-like flushing reaction.
