Zestoretic-20 Tablets 20mg/12.5mg (lisinopril + Hctz)
Description
Zestoretic-20 Tablets 20mg/12.5mg (Lisinopril + HCTZ)
Zestoretic-20 Tablets by ICI Pharma combine lisinopril 20 mg, an ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitor, with hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg, a thiazide diuretic. This dual mechanism is prescribed for patients with high blood pressure (hypertension) who need more than a single antihypertensive drug to reach their blood pressure target.
Lisinopril relaxes blood vessels by blocking the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, reducing vascular resistance and easing the heart's workload. Hydrochlorothiazide gently increases urine output, lowering excess body fluid and sodium. Together they lower blood pressure more effectively than either alone, helping to reduce the long-term risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney damage from uncontrolled hypertension.
Zestoretic-20 is a long-term prescription antihypertensive. Patients should not stop the medicine abruptly as this can cause rebound rise in blood pressure. The medicine is contraindicated in pregnancy — inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy. Tell your doctor about a history of angioedema, kidney disease, gout or potassium imbalance. Possible side effects include dry persistent cough, dizziness, low blood pressure on standing, and rare allergic swelling (angioedema), which needs urgent medical care.
