    Key Benefits

    • Occlusive Antiviral Protection: The ointment base creates a protective barrier over lesions, combining antiviral action with skin barrier support.
    • Targets Herpes Simplex at Source: Acyclovir inhibits HSV DNA polymerase, stopping viral replication directly in the skin.

    • Compact 5g Pack: Small, portable tube ideal for targeted spot treatment and convenient for travel or first-aid kits.
    • Established Topical Antiviral: Acyclovir ointment has a long history of clinical use with a well-characterised safety profile.

    FAQs

What is Acylex 5% Ointment used for?

Acylex 5% Ointment is a topical antiviral for herpes simplex infections of the skin, including cold sores (herpes labialis) and herpes genitalis. It is applied directly to lesions to shorten outbreak duration and severity.

What is the difference between Acylex Cream and Acylex Ointment?

The cream has a water-based formulation that absorbs quickly and suits facial and lip areas. The ointment has a paraffin base that is more occlusive and moisturising, better suited to dry or cracked skin around herpetic lesions.

How often should I apply Acylex 5% Ointment?

Apply five times daily (every 4 hours while awake) for 5 days, or as directed by your physician. Always start as early as possible at the first sign of symptoms.

Can Acylex Ointment be used near the eyes?

No. Acylex 5% Ointment is not suitable for ophthalmic use. Keep away from the eyes and mucous membranes. A separate ophthalmic acyclovir preparation is required for eye infections.

Is the 5g tube enough for a full treatment course?

Yes. A 5g tube is sufficient for the standard 5-day course of application five times daily to a localised lesion area. Consult your physician if a larger area is affected.
