Irecon 300mg Tablets contain irbesartan, a potent orally active selective angiotensin-II type 1 (AT1) receptor antagonist (ARB). By blocking AT1 receptors, irbesartan prevents angiotensin-II from exerting its vasoconstrictive effects, resulting in relaxation of blood vessels, reduced vascular resistance, and sustained reduction in blood pressure.
Unlike ACE inhibitors, irbesartan does not inhibit ACE (kininase-II) and does not cause bradykinin accumulation, making it well-tolerated in patients who develop cough with ACE inhibitors. Irecon 300mg is indicated for essential hypertension in adults and for renal protection in hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and proteinuria. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and renal function is recommended.
