Miro 10mg contains Mirogabalin besylate 10mg, a newer-generation alpha-2-delta (α2δ) ligand for neuropathic pain — the burning, shooting, tingling or electric-shock pain caused by damaged nerves rather than by injured tissue. Miro is made by Nabiqasim in three strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg and 10mg. The 10mg tablet is a higher maintenance step, reached after the doctor has titrated upward from a lower dose.
What Miro is used for
- Diabetic peripheral neuropathy — burning or tingling feet and hands
- Post-herpetic neuralgia — nerve pain after shingles
- Other peripheral neuropathic pain, as diagnosed by a doctor
- Nerve pain that disturbs sleep and interferes with daily activity
How it works
Mirogabalin binds tightly and selectively to the α2δ-1 subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels on overactive sensory nerves, and dissociates from it slowly. This reduces the release of pain-signalling neurotransmitters and calms nerves that keep firing pain signals without a real injury behind them. Compared with older gabapentinoids such as pregabalin, its binding profile is more selective for α2δ-1.
Directions for use (as prescribed)
- Mirogabalin is taken twice a day, morning and evening, with or without food.
- Treatment normally starts at 5mg twice daily and is increased in steps at intervals of at least a week, up to a maintenance dose of 15mg twice daily. 10mg is a middle step.
- Doses are reduced for patients with impaired kidney function.
- Take at the same times each day. If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next dose is close — never double up.
- Do not stop suddenly. The dose must be tapered by your doctor over at least a week.
Important precautions
- Common effects: sleepiness, dizziness, weight gain, ankle swelling, blurred vision
- Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you
- Avoid alcohol, which increases drowsiness
- Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease — the dose must be adjusted
- Report any new or worsening mood changes to your doctor
