What is Vepridone 3mg?

Vepridone 3mg Tablets contain Risperidone 3mg, an atypical antipsychotic. Risperidone antagonises dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors and is indicated for schizophrenia, bipolar mania, and autism-related irritability. The 3mg dose sits within the usual effective dose range for schizophrenia, providing meaningful antipsychotic efficacy with manageable tolerability for most adults.

How Does Vepridone 3mg Work?

Risperidone's D2 antagonism in the mesolimbic pathway reduces positive symptoms (delusions, hallucinations), while 5-HT2A antagonism in the prefrontal cortex improves negative symptoms (flat affect, social withdrawal) and reduces EPS risk. At 3mg, EPS risk is low to moderate; prolactin elevation remains a consistent class effect. The drug is metabolised by CYP2D6 to 9-hydroxyrisperidone (paliperidone), its active metabolite.

Uses of Vepridone 3mg

Indicated for: schizophrenia (acute treatment and relapse prevention); acute manic episodes in bipolar I disorder; irritability associated with autistic disorder. The 3mg strength is useful as a titration step or maintenance dose. Related strengths include Vepridone 2mg and Vepridone 4mg.

Dosage & Administration

Adults (schizophrenia): titrate from 1–2mg/day to 4–6mg/day; 3mg may be used as an intermediate or stable maintenance dose. Maximum: 16mg/day. Elderly or impaired patients: start at 0.5mg twice daily. Can be taken with or without food once or twice daily. Do not discontinue abruptly — taper under physician supervision.

Side Effects

Common: somnolence, akathisia, headache, nausea, dizziness, constipation. EPS increases with dose; monitor especially above 6mg. Prolactin elevation (class-specific): galactorrhoea, amenorrhoea, gynecomastia, sexual dysfunction. Metabolic: weight gain, hyperglycaemia, dyslipidaemia. QTc prolongation and, rarely, NMS reported.

Precautions

Contraindicated in dementia-related psychosis. Use caution with QTc-prolonging agents, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and Parkinson's disease. Monitor metabolic panel and ECG periodically. Not recommended in pregnancy without specialist input. Avoid abrupt discontinuation. Prescription only (Rx). Consult your psychiatrist. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does risperidone 3mg compare to paliperidone?
A: Paliperidone is the active metabolite of risperidone. Paliperidone bypasses CYP2D6 hepatic metabolism, offering more predictable plasma levels; clinically, both are effective atypical antipsychotics.

Q: Can Vepridone 3mg cause elevated prolactin?
A: Yes. Risperidone produces the highest prolactin elevation among atypical antipsychotics. Report symptoms like breast discharge or menstrual changes to your doctor.

Q: Is Vepridone 3mg prescription-only in Pakistan?
A: Yes. Risperidone is a prescription-only antipsychotic (Rx). A valid doctor's prescription is required for dispensing.

Usage & Benefits

How To Use

Take Vepridone 3mg once or twice daily as directed by your psychiatrist. Do not discontinue abruptly — taper under physician supervision. Prescription required.

FAQs

How does risperidone differ from paliperidone?

Paliperidone (9-hydroxyrisperidone) is the active metabolite of risperidone. Paliperidone undergoes minimal hepatic metabolism, giving more predictable blood levels. Both are clinically effective atypical antipsychotics.

Can Vepridone 3mg cause elevated prolactin levels?

Yes. Risperidone produces the highest prolactin elevation among atypical antipsychotics. Report symptoms such as breast discharge, menstrual irregularities, or sexual dysfunction to your doctor.

Is Vepridone 3mg available without a prescription in Pakistan?

No. Risperidone is a prescription-only antipsychotic (Rx). A valid doctor's prescription is required for dispensing.
